Outside the Bastion City Mission, police cars flash red and blue lights across the street. Officers and civilians gather around the entrance while displaced children and adults linger nearby. Vangel sits on the hood of a squad car, withdrawn and silent.
Vangel (thought balloon): “So…”

“You’re awfully quiet…”

Panel 2
Close on Vangel as the shadowy demonic presence of Daisy with glowing yellow eyes and a wide grin curls around behind her shoulder.
Daisy: “I offer my insight and you tell me to shut up.”
“I hold my tongue and you demand that I speak.”
“Fickle girl.”
Vangel (thought balloon)“Any idea what happened to Zorensen?”
Daisy: “They took him away in an ambulance.”
Vangel (thought balloon): “I mean do you know why he crashed out when he tried to use his domination spell on me.”
Daisy: “No.”

Panel 3
Close on Vangel’s face as she looks downward, frustrated and exhausted.
Vangel (thought balloon): “Ughhh!!”
“Demons…”

Panel 4
Ogre police officer, Glokka Scarmarker, approaches carrying a tray of coffee cups and a duffel bag over one shoulder. Police cars continue flashing in the background.
Glokka: “Just got out of a post-incident with Chief Ross.”
“The Bastion City Mission will continue to operate until all the kids can be relocated, but only as a shelter.”
“Magic classes are suspended and the workroom is locked down until they can get a team through there.”
“We also found your duffel bag at the bus station.”
“I’m supposed to say ‘Hi from Juneberry.’”

Panel 5
Glokka hands Vangel a cup of coffee. Her hand reaches out to take it.
Glokka: “How’re you doing?”
Vangel: “I’d really like to sleep for a week…”
“…or however long it takes ribs to heal.”
Glokka “You got a place to sleep?”
Vangel: “Sooorrt of…”
