Page Transcript:

Panel 1

Description: Vange stands on her bicycle, taking in the deserted ruined streets of the Barrens. She wears a helmet and carries a sword strapped across her back. Abandoned buildings loom on either side of the road.

Owain (VO): The Knight’s sanctuary is on the far side of the Barrens.

Owain (VO): It’s a hotspot for creatures that prefer to steer clear of humans.

Which means you should assume anything you meet has a reason for being there.

Panel 2

Description: Close-up of Vangel’s phone in her hand. The screen shows that she has no cell service. The date reads October 9 and the time is 10:09.

Owain (VO): There hasn’t been cell reception out there in years, so we’ll find you a paper map.

Panel 3-4

Description: Vangel takes a deep breath and mentally prepares to embark.

SFX: FFFFFF

SFX: HHOOOOO

Panel 5

Description: Vangel pedals through the Barrens on her bicycle, weaving between the ruins of abandoned buildings.

Owain (VO): Even so, be aware that the ways may have changed. The Barrens are a sort of neutral zone that is both magical and mundane.

Panel 6

Description: Vangel rides past a large, fenced-off brick building with an arched entrance. A shadowy figure stands behind the fence near the doorway. Vangel continues onward without noticing.

Owain (VO): …so stay on guard.

Concrete Arcanum Cover Conundrum!

Heya!

I’m thrilled to announce the follow up to my modern fantasy anthology, Concrete Arcanum!

Concrete Arcanum: Living With Monsters, coming to Kickstarter 6/6/2025

It’s time for one of my favorite parts of bringing an anthology together: The cover!

I need your help deciding which cover composition to go with.

Check out my cover sketches below, then let me know which one you think is best!

Patreon vs. Apple

Heya!

So there’s a little something that’s been going around on the news and social media lately and I would like to address it directly for my Patreon Pals and followers. The better to clear up any misinformation.

Starting November 1st, Apple is requiring that Patreon switch to their iOS in-app purchase system or risk being removed from the App Store. As a result, Apple will be applying their 30% App Store fee to all new memberships purchased in the Patreon iOS app.

Because Apple’s gonna Apple.

You can read the full article HERE, but the two most important takeaways are:

1. Your current memberships will NOT increase. This will only apply to new memberships made after November 1st and via the iOS Patreon app.

2. You can bypass this after November by joining Patreon via your web browser.

Meaning, if any iOS users want to get grandfathered in under the old payment structure, now’s the time to join! And I’m giving away these free bonus eBooks all the rest of October so there’s a carrot to go with that stick!

Join by the date shown to get the ebook, join by Monday the 14th to get all 4!

And that’s on top of all the regular perks of membership like:

⚔️ First look at new pages of The Canon of Vangel and other comics projects.

⚔️ Access to my +1000 page archive of comics.

⚔️ Behind the scenes, work in progress images, speed drawings videos, commissions, and more!

Even though Apple’s trying to stick it to its users and affiliates, it’s still a great time to join your favorite Patreon and help make your favorite creations possible.

See you on the other side and happy spooky season!

Be good!

But not too good 🎃

Hell and high water

So I’ve been bad.

I haven’t been as diligent about promoting the Impure Blood 15th Anniversary Book Box Kickstarter as I usually am with my campaigns.

The reason? Well, I’ve been dealing with a little something.

I discovered water damage in the area of my basement where I store my stock of books that I’ve Kickstarted. Seems all the rain we’ve had here in Minnesota has finally caught up to me. As a result, some of the books I have on hand have been damaged.

While I am please to report that the overwhelming majority of my stock has survived unscathed, I’m still working on quantifying the total damage. Anyone with home repair experience will no doubt recognized that the carpet will need to come out and the dry wall patched.

So you can see how I’ve had my eye on other things.

That said, one week remains on the 15th Anniversary of Impure Blood Kickstarter, and it’s now more important than ever that we finish this campaign strong!

CLICK HERE to go to the campaign page.

Come hell or high water, (poor choice of words, perhaps) I am going to spend the remainder of this Kickstarter giving both it and the thousands of Impure Blood readers the attention they deserve.

As I have always said, I cannot do what I do without you.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Till next time, stay dry.

But not too dry 💦
