A while back it was announced that Kraven the Hunter would be the last entry into Sony’s Spider-Man universe.
Apparently the studio was struggling with ideas about how to make Spidey’s rogues gallery interesting without including the web-head himself because of whatever dark pact they made with Disney. And, while they certainly had success with Venom, they are throwing in the towel because everything else has flopped.
Now, I have no greater pet peeve than wasted potential. So please enjoy these five pitches I have come up with for what could have been done with one of the richest cast of supporting characters in all of comics.
(Sony, I am open to contract work.)
-
The Sinister Six – Sony kept trying to make a Sinister Six movie happen. Well here you go: Make it a heist movie in which the Black Cat assembles a team in order to steal from The Rose.
-
Knight & Fog – British crime drama series featuring Knight & Fogg as reformed super villains who now contract with the police to investigate super crime using their old underworld contacts. Also opens the door to include other Spidey bad guys that they chase down.
-
Mary-Jane – Teen drama series centered on Mary Jane, Felicia Hardy, & Gwen Stacy dealing with romance drama and the angst of growing up in a world where half the people seem to be developing superpowers. Think Freaks and Geeks set in the Marvel Universe.
4. Sandman – Sandman decides to go straight. He does his best to be heroic but is greeted with suspicion. Finally he gives up, resorts to his old ways, rob’s a billionaire CEO, and is hailed as a folk hero.
-
5. Spider-Woman – Jessica Drew is an escapee from a secret government program dedicated to giving normal humans super powers. She is working as a private detective and trying to lay low when an agent of said program finds her and gives her a choice: He’ll let her go, but only if she helps him track down other escaped subjects like herself.
Thanks very much. I hope you have enjoyed my little indulgence into what might have been.
Till next time, be good.
But not too good 😉
