PANEL 1
ZORENSEN (angry, shouting): You don’t know a damn thing about me.
DAISY: Oh?

PANEL 2

The scene shifts to a living room. Danny Williams is gesturing emphatically to a younger image of Zorensen and his wife.

DAISY: Would Daniel agree?
Quite a bit of your psyche is written around this memory.
What is it?

PANEL 3

The scene shifts to a football field. Zorensen and Daisy stand on the sidelines watching Danny play.

ZORENSEN: My step-son… Danny…
Great kid. Had a bright future ahead of him.

Popular. Athletic. Scholarships. All-star everything.
Then one day he starts telling me about tree-people.

PANEL 4
ZORENSEN (narration): Before long he wouldn’t stop talking about how they were always watching him.
Playing tricks on him, tripping him up.

At first I thought he was having fun. Then I thought maybe it was bad dreams or performance anxiety, but he wouldn’t let it go.
Whenever anything went wrong, it was because of the “tree people.”

PANEL 5
ZORENSEN (narration): My major was in child psychology. I was convinced it was a schizophrenic persecutory delusion.
I tried to convince him to get help. I pushed him, pressured him, tried everything I could think of.

PANEL 6
ZORENSEN (narration): I knew best, of course. But the harder I pushed the more he dug in his heels.
He said he’d figured something else out.
